Welcome to the summer edition of the Praia D’El Rey Resort newsletter.
Another year has quickly passed us by and that well-deserved R&R is quickly approaching; lounging by the pool, the perfect game of golf, the most breathtaking sunsets, the end-of-day happy hours where old friends meet again and new ones are made…that’s what Praia D’El Rey Resort is all about, good friends and good times.
This year promises to be even better than last, with so many activities being offered throughout the Resort it’s impossible not to have a good time. Starting with the Hotel, we are very excited about all the programs that have been specially created for you, including daily themed buffets, live music with the sound of the Portuguese guitar, and some unforgettable cocktails against the backdrop of the spectacular Silver Coast sunset.
At the Clubhouse, enjoy a meal on the sunny terrace or take advantage of the take-out service. Zanzibar is then the ideal stop for a late night drink or, come and visit the recently renovated Atlantico Bar that’s been transformed into a luxurious contemporary venue, and renamed The Ocean Lounge in deference to the absolutely breathtaking view. We highly recommend that you see it for yourself.
Although mother nature isn’t currently co-operating with us, our beach season is officially open from June 1st to September 30th, when a wide range of water activities are available so please see our Hotel concierge for more information and bookings.
We all know this is a time to have fun and enjoy ourselves in the ocean, but please I urge you to be careful at all times and follow all safety warnings posted in various locations.

Vila do Golfe is Praia D'El Rey's newest luxury release of linked villas. Phase 1, is an exclusive cluster of eight properties overlooks the 2nd fairway of the award winning championship golf course, and has views of the breathtaking Atlantic Ocean. BALL POSITION
In my daily lessons with clients, one subject keeps cropping up causing confusion and doubt, “where do I have the ball”?
The following are where to put the ball for various clubs and shots and the reasons why.
Irons:
The ball position for full iron shots should be about ¼ - ¾ favoring your foot closest to the target, this because when you are driving forward to hit the ball on the downswing, your weight at impact is not at 50-50, where you started from but more on leading foot, and if you are moving towards the target so to will be the bottom of the swing arc, and to meet the ball at the bottom of the arc the ball needs to be further forward.
Soft shots and Pitching:
The only time the ball position needs to be in the middle of your feet is when you are trying to play a shot at less than normal power. This due to the fact with less power you will not drive forward as much as a normal shot so the bottom of the arc starts at the centre point of your feet, (so the ball position with your irons only changes if your have to change the power , and not if the club changes.)
Woods:
To aid flight and due to the reduced loft on woods, you would like to hit the ball on tee shots on the upswing of the club’s path , and the easiest way of doing this is now to put the position of the ball further forward again, up to the inside of the heel of your leading foot. In doing this you will not have to change your swing to hit the ball on the correct flight. On fairway shots with the ball at ground level the ball needs to be again closer to ¼ - ¾ .

THE OCEAN LOUNGE
The Ocean Lounge, a new informal bar and eatery at the Praia D'El Rey Marriott Hotel, has recently opened. The bar serves a wide variety of Portuguese and international cuisine in ”tapa” style portions or as sharing platters that can be enjoyed by the whole table. Combine this with a selection of fine Portuguese wines served by the glass or the bottle and the Ocean Lounge offers the perfect combination!
Located alongside the terrace, with additional seating on the terrace, the Ocean Lounge takes advantage of the magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean, and is the place to go for sunset cocktails and aperitifs. The Lounge also has a selection of the finest whiskies and brandies so why not stop off for an after-dinner drink? Or, if you prefer something a little more local, there's fruit liquor, Ginginha from Óbidos, or Portugal's signature drink, Porto Wine.
